A tide of new products in Monaco

Les Assises de la Sécurité 2007 rolled-in a tide of new products on the shores of Monaco. For the CSOs unable to attend, SecurityNewsletter.com went into the trenches and asked vendors what's new. Here is what interested us.

While Les Assises de la Sécurité is not a "new products" kind of convention, vendors still can't resist to target the Monaco show to announce new products, services or upgrades. We strolled the convention floor and got some new (ie : announced right on the show or less than a week before) goodies to secure the enterprise.

  • Netasq : With version 7 of Netasq's application firewall enters the Seismo engine, designed to correlate in real-time the traffic seen by the firewall with the threat database from Netasq. Many scenarios then become possible, like exploit traffic directed to a vulnerable application being flagged at a higher priority, the arrival of a new (and thus suspect) server in a DMZ, or even simply identifying Windows XP clients not up-to-date with SP2.
  • Enterasys : The switches, IDS and other networking equipment vendor introduces a new management console, designed to deploy much quicker and leveraging web-based deployment of the clients (Policy Manager, etc...) through a browser. Additionally, the NAC solution becomes inband, making it easier to use in simpler LAN settings.
  • McAfee : The fourth version of McAfee's management console is a full rewrite in order to become a real web application (Apache, Tomcat), doing away with the old MMC approach. The console is thus lighter on the network and SQL server, and allows for a better (complete, says McAfee) support of the offering.
  • Juniper : Unified Access Control goes 2.1 and introduces, amongst other new features, Windows Vista client support, unmanageable end-point support (printers, VoIP phones, etc..) and the integration with Shavlik's NetChk Protect for deeper analysis of the network's health.
  • Sophos : The antivirus vendor was on a messaging focus, announcing new versions of its Unix and appliance versions of PureMessage (better support for LDAP and better granularity in policies definition for the later). Sophos also will add NAC support to its end-point client by the end of the year, making it possible to antivirus customer to do some low-level, pseudo NAC by enforcing a set of rules on the client and isolating is from the network through its own firewall when necessary.
  • Mirapoint : The email security vendor announced the completion of the migration of RazorGate appliances to IBM Blade Servers technology. According to Mirapoint, the Razor technology is deployed on the blades as a virtual appliance, retaining the control of the appliance while adding the benefit of the Blade servers technology.
  • F5 Networks : Lastly, a small but trendy update for F5 Networks with iPhone and Web 2.0 (Ajax, flash and Javascript) support in the FirePass SSL VPN (Juniper recently announced iPhone support in its SSL VPN product range too).
