McAfee's ePolicy Orchestrator 4.0 introduces a new architecture based on web technologies. Exit Windows MMC and enters Tomcat and Apache, backed by a MS SQL Server. According to the vendor the shift allows for a more reactive interface, less traffic on the network (only the server talks to the database now, instead of each MMC doing so), a better coverage of its products and a more scalable architecture. McAfee recognizes the change was long due, as the former technology was not able to properly integrate the new products from recent and future acquisitions.
