RedCannon Security adds secure OpenOffice access through KeyPoint enabled devices

RedCannon Security, a provider of centrally managed, secure mobile-access solutions for the enterprise, today announced direct support for OpenOffice applications through KeyPoint enabled USB flash drives.

The combined solution empowers mobile workers by allowing OpenOffice applications to be pushed to any USB stick, while ensuring through its KeyPoint solutions that only « trusted » or « locked-down » versions of OpenOffice applications are used.
OpenOffice is an open source office productivity suite that includes primary desktop applications, including a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation manager, and a drawing program.

KeyPoint Alchemy transforms any USB flash drive into a trusted corporate access and storage device. Alchemy delivers endpoint security and mobile encryption to any off-the-shelf flash drive. It includes business applications and KeyPoint Vault—the first centrally-managed mobile storage solution providing standards-based, military-grade software encryption and storage.

When a user launches a document stored in the KeyPoint Vault, and OpenOffice is present on both the desktop and the USB device, it will launch only from the secure USB drive.  « Security is a key concern for the enterprise adoption and deployment of open source applications, » said Vimal Vaidya, founder and CEO at RedCannon. « We eliminate the guesswork for mobile workers using OpenOffice on KeyPoint-enabled devices by prohibiting the use of potentially compromised applications found on unknown or untrusted desktop systems.  KeyPoint enables mobile workers to leave their laptops at home, and still carry all the functionality needed to remain productive and secure while on the road. »

KeyPoint Alchemy with support for OpenOffice and Java Run Time Engine (JRE) is available now.
